Why I started Naturally Good and Green

I started Naturally Good and Green LLC, because I was diagnosed with a rare chronic disease called Sarcoidosis (pronounced sar-coy-doe-sis).  Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of granulomas.  These granulomas, which are tiny clumps of inflammatory cells in one or more organs of the body, are impacted by the immune system.  When the immune system goes into a state of heightened activity and too many of these clumps form, they can interfere with an organ’s structure and function. When left unchecked, this chronic inflammation can lead to fibrosis.  Fibrosis is the permanent scarring of organ tissue.

The Impact of Sarcoidosis

This condition affects the lungs in approximately 90% of cases, but it can affect almost any organ in the body, including skin. Despite increasing advances in research, sarcoidosis remains difficult to diagnose with limited treatment options and no known cure.

In 1999 I was misdiagnosed, and I wasn’t diagnosed properly until 2007.  By that time I was on a tremendous number of medications (2-gallon sized zip lock baggies).  One day, I decided there has to be a better way other than medication.  The side effects from all the medications ultimately caused havoc on other organs.

A Healthier Way

So, I researched a healthy lifestyle and what I needed to do to maintain the disease. I stopped smoking cigarettes (after 23 years).  I quit drinking alcohol (which was only done in moderation), and I ditched sugary drinks and soda. After my research I decided to live a holistic lifestyle and became a Certified Holistic Nutritionist.  The benefits to my own health were amazing.
